For cross-country skiers, West Yellowstone is a Nordic Mecca.
From skating lanes to deep powder, and incredible events like the annual Yellowstone Ski Festival, skiers of all interests and abilities will find an endless array of Yellowstone skiing trails and back country adventures.
Right next door to the Park Gate Lodges at Yellowstone is the famous Rendezvous Trail System. Ski more than 35 kilometers of gently rolling, beautifully groomed trails that wind through tall stands of lodgepole pine and open meadows. The trail system is located entirely on U.S. Forest Service land and it is managed through a cooperative partnership between the Forest Service, the West Yellowstone Chamber of Commerce, and the West Yellowstone Ski Education Foundation (WYSEF). View the Rendezvous Ski Trail snow conditions and grooming report.
The distinctive Trailhead Archway and Trailhead Building are located at the south end of Geyser Street. Though the West Yellowstone skiing trails are just a short walk from just about anywhere in West Yellowstone, there is plenty of parking available across the street from the Archway.
Ideally situated at an altitude of just over 6,800 feet (2,000 meters), the Rendezvous Ski Trails provide perfect conditions for high altitude training or recreation at any time of the year. The altitude and location adjacent to the Continental Divide means that dry, powdery snow comes early and stays late.
The Old Faithful area is a very special hub for Yellowstone cross-country skiing. Trails fan out from the geyser area to circle the Upper Geyser Basin and lead to many nearby sights and points of interest. Learn about our winter cross-country skiing packages.
