West Yellowstone Snowshoeing
Snowshoe rentals are available for $20 per day at West Yellowstone's Freeheel and Wheel.
Wander trails and spy wildlife while enjoying the satisfying crunch of snow underfoot.
Snowshoeing offers a fun and easy way to see Yellowstone Park in the winter. And today's snowshoes are a far cry from the clunky equipment of yesteryear; they're made with aircraft-grade materials, are easy to slip on and off, and take about two minutes to master.
Local snowshoe outfitters cater to beginners and offer West Yellowstone snowshoeing tours lasting from two hours to full days. The Rendezvous Ski Trail system, which is just steps from the Park Gate Lodges, is a popular place to take a snowshoe walk, either guided or on your own. Dress in layers and any pair of snow-proof boots, and bring water, energy bars or trail mix, and binoculars. You'll be able to explore parts of the wilderness otherwise inaccessible on foot, so be prepared to see the best of West Yellowstone's secret sights.
