Yellowstone Travel Tips & Tools

• If you’re starting out in West Yellowstone, make a quick run into the Montana Mercantile on Canyon Street for the best buys around. Find major name brands at deeply discounted prices and make your travel to Yellowstone even better.
• Heading into the park from West Yellowstone, watch for Blue Heron & Trumpeter Swans along the river. About 5 miles in, Riverside Drive, an old stagecoach route, will be on your left. Take this short jaunt off the main highway to see river fowl up close and personal. This makes your travel to Yellowstone even better.
• Madison Junction—take a left and drive the Yellowstone Caldera up through Norris on your way to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone—make sure to stop at Canyon General Store for a “flash from the past” at our fifties-styled lunch counter, a unique experience that is not to be missed. Before you go on, take a quick run in the Yellowstone Adventure Store—featuring anything you need to make your outdoor experience unforgettable—betcha didn’t bring a bear bell, did you?
• On your way to the Fishing Bridge area, make sure to stop and watch the Mud Volcano.
• Fishing???  Did someone say fishing?
• While you can buy your fishing licenses at nearly all of our stores, make time to stop in and get your license at quaint Bridge Bay or the rustic Fishing Bridge Store—they have everything you’ll need for a great day of angling, which makes your travel to Yellowstone National Park even better.
• Don’t want to fish? After grabbing a delicious Wilcoxson’s ice-cream cone at Lake General Store, work off those extra calories with a hike up Storm Point. This route will thrill the novice or be a nice respite for an expert. With panoramic views of the lake and an abundance of wildlife, there’s something for everyone. Don’t forget your binoculars & that bear bell you got at the Adventure Store!
• After you’ve had your fun in the Tetons, come see Yellowstone through the South Gate, making sure to stop at the Grant Grille for some Great Grub! Take some time to view all the thermal activity around the West Thumb as well. This will enhance your travel to Yellowstone National Park.
• Seeing Old Faithful #1 on your list? Make a right at the Madison Junction and make sure to cruise the Fountain Paint Pots en route. After watching Old Faithful, stop into our Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlor in the loft for a scrumptious Wilcoxson’s ice-cream cone.

• Beartooth Highway? Don’t miss the prime wildlife viewing in the Lamar Valley. After the long drive, make sure to stop in at our Tower Fall store for some great buys on souvenirs and maybe a hot dog & ice cream. This makes Yellowstone travel even more fun.
• Stretch those legs out with a hike down to the falls—it is a steep hike both down and up but seeing the beauty of the falls will be worth every sore muscle.
