Park Gate Lodges
Explorer Cabins at Yellowstone
- Delaware North built and opened the Explorer Cabins at Yellowstone in July 2013. This is a limited service cabin property, with 50 units. This location is not open during the winter, and has approximately 15 Summer associates.
- Summer season start dates range from mid-April to late May; end dates range from late September to late October.
Gray Wolf Inn & Suites
- The Gray Wolf Inn and Suites was purchased by Delaware North in May of 2010. This is a limited service hotel, with 105 guest rooms. This location has approximately 7 year-round associates, and 20 Summer seasonal associates.
- Summer season start dates range from early May to early June; end dates range from late September to late October.
Yellowstone Park Hotel
- The Yellowstone Park Hotel was purchased by Delaware North in May 2010. This is a limited service hotel, with 64 guest rooms. This location is not open during the Winter, and has approximately 15 Summer associates.
- Summer season start dates range from mid-April to late May; end dates range from late September to late October.
Holiday Inn West Yellowstone
- Delaware North purchased the Holiday Inn West Yellowstone in 2009. This is a full-service hotel, with 123 guest rooms and a 206 seat restaurant and bar called The Branch, which was recently renovated during the Winter/Spring of 2014. This location has approximately 40 year-round associates, 30 Winter seasonal associates, and 50 Summer seasonal associates.
- Winter season dates are mid-December to mid-March.

YGS operates 12 stores throughout Yellowstone with support operations in the town of West Yellowstone, providing visitors a full array of gifts, apparel, groceries, sundries, camping supplies, jewelry and photo supplies, as well as food services. Each park location has its own natural features and character, as do each of our stores. Your store could be just a short walk from world-famous Old Faithful Geyser, next to the breathtaking Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone or near the sparkling blue waters of Yellowstone Lake. Old Faithful Basin Store: Mid-May – early October, 40 associates
Built in 1897, this was the first store in the Old Faithful area. Adjacent to the Old Faithful Inn, this store’s unique burl wood highlights, original marble counter and fountain stools represent the National Park’s rustic tradition. Old Faithful is the one stop all visitors to Yellowstone must make. Our associates here serve lots of customers from all over the world every day, and you’ll quickly learn the meaning of the phrase “geyser rush.”
Old Faithful General Store: Early-May – early October, 80 associates
Built from 1929-1930, this store is located across from the Old Faithful Visitor Center. Grand park architecture is evident at this store where you’ll be awestruck by huge log beams, a magnificent fireplace and impressive light fixtures. Many Yellowstone visitors from all over the world stop by this store, making it a busy and exciting hub in the Old Faithful area.
Grant General Store and Grant Mini Store: Early June – late September, 60 associates
Constructed in 1984, the Grant General Store is our newest store. A large fountain area with seating for approximately 80 people serves up three tasty meals a day, fast-food style. While the store is modern, complete with air-conditioning, the western motif shines through in an etched-wood border found along the top of the store walls. Our location is a short jaunt off the main track, situated in a tranquil setting near the shore of breathtaking Yellowstone Lake.
Bridge Bay General Store: Late May – early September, 8 associates
This very small store is situated right on the shore of Yellowstone Lake at the Bridge Bay Marina. Associates at this store may have fewer shoppers than the large stores, but the shop can still hop on a busy summer day. The items that guests line up for most? Fishing permits and advice!
Lake General Store: Mid-May – late September, 40 associates
Constructed in 1919, this thirty-foot cedar-shaked octagon is a unique structure. Located on the shore of scenic Yellowstone Lake, this charming store is a special place to take a break while traveling through the Park. People like to stop here to have an ice cream cone or a meal from the fountain while they enjoy peaceful Yellowstone Lake. The store more than makes up in charm whatever it may lack in modern details.
Fishing Bridge General Store: Early May – early October, 80 associates
Built in 1931, this store is located near the Yellowstone River and the historic Fishing Bridge. Fishing Bridge is a large store, built in the rustic log and stone style which is very popular in Yellowstone. The Fishing Bridge store is a busy location on the east side of the Park’s figure-eight road system and most visitors on their way to or from the Park’s popular East Entrance seem to stop here.
Canyon General Store: Mid-May – late September, 80 associates
Opened in 1957, this larger store reflects American attitudes and modern architecture of this era. The color and feel of this store is fun and recalls memories of Americans’ first major ventures by automobile to the scenic areas of our country. With a large gift and grocery area, as well as a unique diner with a menu from the past including hamburgers, fries and shakes, this is a busy store -- you won’t be bored!
Yellowstone Adventures: Mid-April – early November, 10 associates
Adjacent to the Canyon Village General Store, this cozy store is our premier outdoor apparel and equipment outfitter, highlighting Cloudveil® and Columbia® products, fishing and camping gear, as well as gifts and limited food service. The premier attraction of this area is the awe-inspiring Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River and its two major waterfalls.
Tower General Store: Mid-May – mid-September, 40 associates
Located at the trailhead to beautiful 132-foot Tower Fall, this store is a great place for visitors to take a break in the northern part of the Park. We serve Montana-made ice cream here, and sell a variety of Yellowstone keepsakes and t-shirts. This is a popular, busy place on a hot summer day!
Roosevelt General Store: Early June – early September, 6 associates
Roosevelt is a small, rustic location far from the hustle and bustle of busier locations. This area of the park is named after President Theodore Roosevelt, who camped nearby in 1903, and is a symbol of the American Wild West. Our store is located next to the lodge and offers snacks, drinks and select grocery and keepsake items for those traveling by car, horse, or stagecoach.
Mammoth General Store: Year-round, 40 associates in summer
Built in 1895, this store is located at the National Park Service’s headquarters in Mammoth Hot Springs. The buildings in this area reflect historic Fort Yellowstone and are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The U.S. Army managed Yellowstone until the creation of the National Park Service in 1916. Open year round, this store is equipped to outfit visitors with gifts, apparel, equipment and supplies as they head into the Park, or make a last stop on their way out.
West Yellowstone Complex: Early April – mid-October, 50 associates
This area is the base of operations for our warehouse, maintenance and support staff, and associates working here enjoy both close proximity to the park and small-town life in West Yellowstone, MT. The west entrance to Yellowstone can see over 1 million visitors passing through each year so there’s rarely a dull moment here!
Presenting the best possible image to the public is of the utmost importance. As members of our professional team, all associates must present a clean, well-groomed appearance at work unless otherwise protected by law. Associates must arrive in accordance with the standards or expect to be denied check-in until they are in compliance. The standards must be maintained throughout the season.
YGS Appearance StandardsPersonal cleanliness - Unless otherwise protected by law, associates must bathe and use deodorant before coming to work. Body odor, excessive perfumes or fragrances can be very offensive and should be avoided.
Hair – Unless otherwise protected by law, male associates’ hair may extend to mid-ear, and may be on the forehead, but not covering the eyebrows; it may cover the back of the neck, but not the top of a conventional shirt collar. Unless otherwise protected by law, female associates’ hair must be neatly styled and in a conservative manner. The style should not permit the hair to fall over the face while performing normal job duties; if so, it must be restrained. Unless otherwise protected by law, hair coloring for all associates will be conservative; only natural colors will be allowed, and one color only.
Sideburns - Unless otherwise protected by law, sideburns must be straight and may extend to the bottom of the ears.
Mustaches and beards - Unless otherwise protected by law, mustaches and beards grown prior to arrival are permitted. Mustaches must be neatly trimmed and cannot extend below the upper lip; beards must be closely trimmed to approximately one inch in length. Unless otherwise protected by law, associates arriving without facial hair will not be allowed to grow it during the season.
Tattoos - Unless otherwise protected by law, all tattoos must be covered, or be conservative in nature. If you have questions regarding the appropriateness of a specific tattoo, please contact Human Resources.
Jewelry – Unless otherwise protected by law, only conservative accessories may be worn with the uniform and are at the discretion of management, especially when they create a safety hazard. Unless otherwise protected by law, while at work, facial jewelry is limited to two earrings per earlobe which do not exceed one inch in length/diameter (quarter-size). Visible body piercing, including the tongue, is not permitted while on duty.
Park Gate Lodges Appearance Standards
The impression that we make on our guests is very important. Remember, you may be the first contact that a guest has with our operations; therefore, we want to make sure that it is a good and lasting impression. We require that all associates maintain a clean, well-groomed appearance and conduct themselves in a reasonable and considerate manner at all times while on duty and when in uniform off duty. Therefore, associates who groom themselves or who dress (including jewelry, perfumes/scents, etc.) in a manner that might reasonably be considered by your supervisor, guests or other members of the public to be extreme, offensive, revealing, distracting, unsafe or is otherwise inappropriate, is prohibited. Specific departments may reserve the right to maintain a stricter appearance standard.
Unless otherwise protected by law, Hair is to be clean, neatly groomed and of a "natural" color:
- Fad hairstyles, including but not limited to dreadlocks and mohawks, are prohibited.
- Long hair for male associates must be restrained.
- Long hair for female associates may need to be restrained, depending on the associate's job, in order to comply with health and safety regulations.
- Beards and mustaches are to be established prior to the operating season. All beards and mustaches must be trimmed to a half-inch maximum length.
- An associate who has not established a mustache or beard prior to the operating season will be required to be clean-shaven daily throughout the season.
- Sideburns are to be straight and no longer than the bottom of the ear.
- Goatees are allowed.
- "Soul Patches" are allowed.
- Mustaches may extend 1/2-inch below the corner of the lips.
- Tattoos are to be discreet and non-offensive.
Exposed tattooed areas of more than two square inches in total are to be covered by proper work attire
Piercing is allowed through the ears only. No more than one per ear. Conservative earrings (no larger than a dime), rings, necklaces and bracelets are permitted so long as they do not interfere with the safety of the associate.
The federal government requires all new and returning associates to present valid documentation of identity and employment-eligibility to work within the United States. Acceptable documentation includes, but is not limited to: a valid U.S. passport or a picture ID such as a valid driver’s license, as well as proof of eligibility such as an original Social Security card. Duplicated or faxed documentation is not acceptable. Associates will not be permitted to begin work without required documentation.
Delaware North participates in E-Verify, which is an Internet-based system operated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in partnership with the Social Security Administration (SSA) that allows participating employers to electronically verify the employment eligibility of its newly hired associates.
Delaware North at Yellowstone is committed to providing a drug-free workplace. Our objectives are to provide a safe work environment that is free from the effects of drugs and to protect the company’s assets and its sensitive and fragile surroundings from damage.
YGS Drug Test Policy
In order to maintain a safe working environment, YGS has adopted an Illegal Substances Policy. To complement that policy, the Company has also implemented an Applicant Drug Screening Policy, which requires pre-employment drug testing. Employment with YGS is contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment drug testing.

National Park Service requires all in park associates pass an outstanding wants and warrants check prior to employment.

Housing & Meals
Our associates live either at, or very near, the store where they are working for the season. Depending on your needs, Delaware North will either provide dormitory housing or RV sites. Even though housing is onsite, some walking may be required to and from your work area.
Dormitories - The dorms are rustic with centrally located shared bathrooms, showers, free laundry facilities and employee dining room. All associates will have at least one roommate. The dorms are all non-smoking and do not contain air conditioning or kitchen facilities. Guests, family members and pets are not permitted in employee housing. The housing cost is $22.89 per week.
RV Sites - For those associates planning to live in their own RV while working for Park Gate Lodges and Yellowstone General Stores, a site can be provided for a weekly fee ranging from $32.20 to $74.06, plus electric and propane costs. Most RV campgrounds have onsite coin-operated laundry facilities. RV associates arriving before May 1 may have to stay at temporary sites without utilities or hookups until their season RV site is available.
Associates who work at the company's seasonal properties are provided meals in the Employee Dining Room (EDR) as a term and condition of employment. Each EDR operates on a menu cycle and provides three meals a day, seven days a week. The menu is designed to offer a variety of food choices, but due to the size of staff and facilities, we cannot generally accommodate special dietetic needs.
Dormitories - All associates living in the dormitories are required to participate in the full (3 meals per day, 7 days per week) meal plan at a rate of $59.57 per week.
RV's - Associates living in RVs also have the option to enroll in the full meal plan at a cost of $59.57 per week.
Internet - Most dorms have both a computer with Internet access and a television with satellite service. Internet service is provided via satellite and is extremely limited. It is slow, unreliable and has a daily threshold of information that can be downloaded. There is a 24-hour reset period if the daily download threshold is crossed and during this time the Internet connection will not work. If you need daily access to the Internet, Yellowstone may not be the best fit for you.
Telephones - Cell phone service is intermittent or non-existent at many park locations. Verizon and AT&T tend to have the best reception in West Yellowstone, but reception is further limited in the park with no service in many locations. We recommend bringing a pre-paid calling card as there are pay telephones in each dormitory.
Park Gate Lodges Housing
Apartments - Associates living in West Yellowstone will share efficiency apartments at a rate of between $42.00 and $55.00 per week, per associate. Each unit has two-to-four occupants. There is a full kitchen and shared bathroom in each apartment, with a shared coin-operated laundry facility in the complex. Apartments are furnished and include dishes, pots and pans and bed linens. All Park Gate Lodges associates living in company housing are required to pay a $100 housing deposit prior to their employment start date. All apartments are non-smoking. Guests, family members and pets are not permitted in employee housing.
RV Sites - For those associates planning to live in their own RV while working at one of our West Yellowstone hotels, an RV site will be assigned by management. Associates will be charged between $53.06-$74.06 per site per week, including electric and propane costs. Onsite coin-operated laundry facilities are available at RV parks.
Internet - Wi-Fi is not included in the cost of your rent. However, if you wish to get Wi-Fi hooked up in your apartment or RV site, you can do so by contacting the local provider and paying on your own. There is a public library and several Internet cafes in West Yellowstone.
Medical - There is a health clinic in West Yellowstone which opens 4 days/week most of the year; they are open 7 days/week during the summer season.
International Employment Information
International students with J-1 visas are an important part of our summer staff! Students interested in working for Delaware North at Yellowstone should contact our participating sponsor, CCUSA, for more information about visa and date eligibility requirements.
Yellowstone is a fairly isolated, wilderness location. Our stores are located at altitudes ranging from 5,000 to more than 8,000 feet and our jobs are generally strenuous and physically demanding. Although the National Park Service provides emergency services, the closest hospital can be several hours away by ambulance or helicopter. We encourage anyone with a heart or respiratory condition, or any medical issue that requires frequent treatment, to consult with his or her physician before planning to work in Yellowstone.
Medcor offers medical services to employees at three in-park clinics located at Old Faithful, Lake and Mammoth Hot Springs. In order to finance and make this service available, all employees in the park are mandated by the National Park Service to subscribe to the Seasonal Employee Health Care Program at a nominal cost of $1.07 per day. This may entitle you to a discount on office visits and other services (private insurance and Medicare are still primary). This discounted service is applicable only at the Medcor clinics within the park boundaries. Associates with persistent medical needs should bring medical records to the park with them.
There is a health clinic in West Yellowstone which is open seven days per week during the summer season and four days per week the rest of the year. The nearest hospitals are located in Bozeman, Montana (90 miles from West Yellowstone) or Idaho Falls, Idaho (110 miles from West Yellowstone). West Yellowstone Hotel associates are not eligible to participate in the Medcor program.

YGS Recreation & Benefits
Yellowstone Co-Op Employee Recreation Program (YCERP) - YGS contributes money each year to support YCERP. This program provides a wide variety of recreational opportunities for all associates in the park including softball, basketball, volleyball, ping pong, raft trips, guided hikes, photo contests, educational seminars, backpacking gear rental and others. Many program activities are free, while others have a small fee. Check out the web site and photo gallery here.
NPS Interpretive Programs - The National Park Service also provides programs for visitors and employees in the park and YGS associates are able to join their lectures, hikes and shows. These programs are available in each area from approximately June 15 through Labor Day. Most NPS visitor centers also have free museum displays explaining park features or history to enhance your understanding of Yellowstone National Park.

Store Discounts - YGS associates receive a 30 percent discount on many items.
Free entry to YNP - As a YGS associate, you'll receive season long free entry into both Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park.
Reduce-cost Medical Services - A minimal (required) payroll-deduction fee allows seasonal staff in Yellowstone to receive reduced-cost treatment at in-park Medcor clinics. (Private insurance and Medicare are still considered primary.)
Park Gate Lodges Recreation & Benefits
Enjoy the convenience of living in a small Montana town, while being just minutes away from the West Entrance to the nation's oldest national park!
In the summer you can fish in the hundreds of miles of blue ribbon trout water surrounding West Yellowstone.
Would you prefer stillwater fishing? At approximately 15 miles long and four miles wide, nearby Hebgen Lake is a premier stillwater fishing destination.
Other activities available in the area include rafting, horseback riding and endless opportunities for hiking.
Many associates enjoy going shopping in Bozeman on their days off. There is a shuttle that goes from West Yellowstone to Bozeman every Tuesday and Thursday for just $10 round trip!
In the winter you can explore hundreds of miles of snowmobiling and cross-country skiing trails. If you enjoy downhill skiing or snowboarding, West Yellowstone is just 55 miles from Big Sky, home to some of the most diverse skiing and snowboarding trails among breathtaking vistas.
Retail Discounts - All Park Gate Lodges associates receive a 30 percent discount on certain items in the Holiday Inn® gift shop and at the Yellowstone General Stores located throughout the park. Must show employee ID to receive discount.
Restaurant Discount - All associates receive a 15 percent discount at The Branch Restaurant & Bar. All Holiday Inn® associates receive a 50 percent discount on shift meals. These discounts exclude alcohol. Must show employee ID to receive discount.
Delaware North provides uniform shirts and other job-specific uniform items. Other required clothing necessary to complete the associate's uniform will be supplied by the associate. It's each associate's responsibility to keep the uniforms clean, free from stains and wrinkle-free. Any uniform item provided by the company must be returned at the end of your employment.
Clothing must be loose enough to allow an associate to work in comfort. Uniform shirts which do not have a finished or straight edge must be tucked in at all times. Uniforms are company property and should be maintained in the condition in which they are received. Unauthorized and visible alterations of uniforms are not allowed (e.g., pinning of hems, cuffing, etc.)
Name tags must be in good condition and worn at all times during working hours as a part of your uniform.
Uniforms may be worn only during the hours an associate is on an assigned work shift. While in uniform, associates are seen as representatives of Delaware North and should conduct themselves accordingly. While in uniform, the consumption of alcoholic beverages, or being present in an establishment that serves alcohol, is strictly prohibited.
Blue jeans or denim skirts may be worn with the uniform shirts. Jeans must be in good repair, no holes and not faded. Low riders and baggy jeans are not permitted. Skirts must be no shorter than knee length.
Shoes should cover the entire foot and should provide good support. Non-slip soles are preferred.
Park Gate Lodges Uniforms

Work Schedule and Wages
All applicable federal and state hours and wage laws are followed. Our locations are open seven days a week; accordingly, work schedules vary and employees can expect to be scheduled any day of the week, including weekends and holidays.
Work Weeks – Our basic work weeks typically range from 32 to 40 hours per week and split shifts may be required. Actual hours worked will be determined by business levels and can vary widely throughout the season; a 40-hour work week is not guaranteed.
Days Off – It is the practice that all seasonal associates receive two consecutive days off per week. One exception to this practice may occur during store openings and closings, or if the associate transfers to another department or location during the season. Days off will be assigned by management at the beginning of employment. We will do our best to accommodate requested days off. Additional time off during the week, other than the two regularly scheduled days, must be requested in advance and may not be granted.
Rest Breaks – A 15-minute rest break may be provided during each four-hour shift and is included in employer-paid time. Shifts of less than four hours do not receive a break. There are certain areas, such as food and beverage, where breaks may be sporadic due to guest volume.
Attendance and Punctuality – All associates are expected to report to work on time and to be regular in their attendance. Failure to do so can result in corrective action up to and including termination from Delaware North.
YGS Wages – The base wage for our seasonal, non-tipped positions is $8.00 per hour; a few positions offer a higher wage. Tipped positions require accurate recordkeeping and reporting.
Park Gate Lodges Wages – The wages for our seasonal positions range from $8.00 to $9.50 per hour; a few positions offer a higher wage.
Paychecks – Hourly associates are paid weekly. The pay period is Monday through Sunday, with paychecks distributed the following Friday. Upon receipt, associates must sign for their own paycheck, verifying their hours worked.
Payroll Deductions - The predetermined dormitory room, RV site (including applicable electric and propane charges) and EDR Meal Program costs will be deducted weekly from your paycheck.
Direct Deposit - A direct deposit payroll option is available and recommended for all employees. It may take up to two pay periods to implement.
Check Cashing - Associates located in the park may cash personal checks up to $75 per week or YGS paychecks at the auditor's window at their store location only. Associates located in West Yellowstone may cash paychecks at a designated local bank at no charge.
What to Bring
What you bring depends in part on how you plan to enjoy Yellowstone, but everyone should bring the following items:
- Valid identification – You will need it for both employment verification and registering your car, if you bring one.
- Cold and warm weather clothing – Our weather changes fast here; plan to bring a little bit of clothing for a wide variety of temperatures. Snow in July is not uncommon!
- Towel, washcloth and extra blanket
- In park YGS associates should bring linens for twin size bed
- Toiletries – Don’t forget prescriptions/medications. Sunscreen and mosquito repellent are available here if you forget!
- Alarm clock
- Laundry soap
- Required clothing for your uniform
- Comfortable shoes for work and play
- Extra cash – Payroll deductions take care of your room and board charges, but you may want cash for personal spending. Pay periods are Monday through Sunday, with paychecks issued the following Friday. If you wish to set up a direct deposit you will need to provide a voided check or other official verification of your bank account.
While your storage space will be somewhat limited and we don’t recommend that you bring lots of valuables, you might enjoy having some of the following items with you as well:
- Hiking and/or camping gear – Water bottle, backpack, hiking boots & socks, gloves, rain gear, flashlight, tent, sleeping bag, stove, etc.
- Camera and binoculars for sightseeing
- Fishing gear
- Bicycle and helmet (bikes are allowed on established roads, but prohibited on backcountry trails and boardwalks)
- Softball glove
- Music and/or instrument
- Laptop Computer
- Playing cards, books, puzzles
- Telephone calling card
- Your private vehicle – although it’s not necessary, you will have more flexibility to explore the area if you bring one
Where To Go
All Delaware North employees will check in for employment at our Human Resources Office in West Yellowstone, Montana, located on Highway 191, 90 miles south of Bozeman, Montana Our West Yellowstone Human Resources Office is located at 251 Echo Canyon Road. Individuals driving their own vehicles will experience a great deal more flexibility getting around Yellowstone during the summer, but it's not a necessity.
Associates arriving in their own vehicle should drive directly to West Yellowstone for check-in on their assigned day. YGS associates can register their vehicle with the local national park rangers upon arrival at their work location to get their free park pass.
If you are arriving here without a vehicle of your own, Bozeman, Montana, must be your final destination. We will provide transportation from Bozeman to West Yellowstone on Sunday and Thursday afternoons, for your Monday or Friday check in. After checking in, YGS in park associates will be transported from West Yellowstone to their assigned summer location in the park.
